But before I was a mom, I was a big sister. I literally hold no memory of not being a big sister. I was 2 1/2 years old when my little brother, Jackson, was born. He was my real life baby doll and I adored everything about him right from the start. There would be seven more little “baby dolls” to come. (Are you keeping count? Eight little siblings, plus me, plus my one big brother…That’s a grand total of ten kids!)
Now, I don’t really think there are such things as newborn “essentials”. You really don’t need much for those snuggly newborn days…just your warm arms and affection, a blanket, and good milk! But there are a few certain things that I was glad to have on hand in caring for little Noah Jackson! They made life easier in those early days of long nights and new discoveries as a mama.
What did I do with the rest of my time? Netflix.
I kid you not, I watched so many hours of tv that week, that the days seem to run together. I didn’t craft, didn’t paint, didn’t touch the Jane Austen that I was in the middle of. I didn’t even open up the brand new sewing machine I had gotten for Christmas.
This month’s theme: palm branches. I knew that I wanted to do something with greens – because we are dying for some Spring over here! Thinking on all the kinds of greens and leaves I could choose from…I decided on delicate palms, because at the end of this month is Palm Sunday, the week before Easter morning.
